Industry runs on heat. But how can we produce that heat with less reliance on fossil fuels? Our new FLEXHYON video introduces a different approach to industrial heating, combining electricity-based technologies to help make production cleaner, more efficient and more flexible.
Watch the video to discover how microwave heating, heat pumps and ultrasound can work together to support industrial processes, delivering energy where and when it is needed.
Three industries, practical benefits
FLEXHYON is developing three prototype systems for demonstration in real industrial environments. Each addresses a specific production challenge:
- Ceramics: drying ceramic tiles faster and with less energy, while maintaining product quality.
- Animal feed: improving the energy efficiency of drying mineral ingredients used in feed production, with more flexible operation.
- Biomass processing: developing a portable system to extract essential oils and other valuable plant compounds. Bringing equipment closer to freshly harvested plants could support on-site processing.
The video offers a glimpse of this work, including footage from El Jarpil that brings the biomass application into focus.
What is FLEXHYON aiming to achieve?
By combining complementary technologies, FLEXHYON aims to help manufacturers reduce their environmental impact while remaining competitive. Compared with current reference processes, the project’s targets include:
- More than 20% lower total primary energy consumption, accounting for the energy needed to supply the process.
- More than 50% reduction in carbon footprint.
- More than 20% lower processing costs.
These are project targets, which will be assessed through industrial demonstrations and environmental and economic evaluations.
